For example, I'm trying to study genetics which is an interesting topic at times. But sometimes it gets a little too technical and I'm bored and I don't want to read the text. What should I do? How should I go about tackling this problem?

Here's a little trick to help you concentrate. Read the subheadings first, try to figure out what the text is going to say about the subject then start reading seeing how close your guess was with reality. Then when you feel yourself starting to get bored, take a break, do about 25 jumping jacks and then sit down and start reading again. The shot of endorphins also gives you dopamine to help you concentrate. Happy studying!

I had the same problem in pathology. It's like there's all the facts out there and no way to organize them. So you get bored of just memorizing facts.

I can reassure you that by the time your done, what you've learned so far will make much more sense. but I can't tell you it's going to get any easier. Mostly it's one of those things you just have to do.

Find a way to express some of the facts differently. I had a friend who, for the virology chapter of microbiology, drew caricatures of all the viruses, anthropomorphizing their virulent properties. That was fun to study with him. A girl in my class drew her own genetic wall poster with the 26 chromosomes on them and doodled data on them as we went. I tried as much as possible to visualize the importance of the gene product (e.g. how this gene contributed to such and so). But even with all these and many other mental tricks, it's a tough road.

Hang in there. Genetics is coming faster than we could have ever imagined. It will cause a lot of pain and bring tremendous healing. Come join the fun!

Take a break from that topic and switch to another book to study. After giving yourself some time away from the boring subject, go back to it and read it in shorter segments. If you highlight the technical stuff, you can aways go back and review them later. Sometimes just highlighting or taking notes will make it seem more important and less boring.

Take a stress break! Go for a walk, have half a beer (depending on tollerance), watch a bit of comedy. Little short distractions help a lot!

(Actually, a late night walk is about the best....clear your mind.)

trye writing dowhn what you read like read a phrease and than write it down.

if that wo,nt work trye to read with music but without text so that you can RAP with the text even if you hate rap trye with other type of music.

you can alsow read the text once and record it with taperecorder and then play your one voice on tape and listen cairfouly.

and thats joust about it
if that wo`nt work than you stop wasting your time with study and go get a job

good luck. !!!!
