My brother is in Iraq, sister-in-law has recently moved into a new place. They have nothing of their own for the house. My family is giving her a house warming party, so that my brother and his new family have a home. She wanted dishes to serve 8. I found a fabulous set, white no less, and thought she would love the gift. She does NOT want white. I thought, "champagne taste" for a newlywed. I was offended. Gift card in order? Is that out of order? Who wants to offer a gift that is discarded?

The saying " do not look a gift horse in the mouth" seem proper here.
I think that she should be accepting of any gift.
It is the thought that matters most and not the gift.
Give her a gift card and let the snob get her own gift.
There will be someone who will appreciate a gift as a gift and not decide if it fits with their decor.

if she knows she is getting specific gifts, she should be registered at some store with her desired patterns for dishes, silverware, etc., so no one duplicates a gift ... remember, when you set up a house, you want to have your own tastes recognized .... remember that awful gift you got from uncle fred??? dont be so harsh, for things like dishes and silverware, she has her own ideas about what theme she wants, as do all women. they do not want the eclectic mismatch of dinnerware that makes the ensemble look like a garage sale ... give her a check.

guys could care less ... a plate is a plate, all we want is something to hold the food ... lol

continue to give her the dishes ... it's the thought that counts ... if they have nothing; then something is better than nothing!
