It really depends on what kinds of scents attract you in the first place.

If you like vanilla, i'd try L'Occitane Vanilla

For floral scents, there are plenty of great smelling perfumes out there; I personally favor Blush by Marc Jacobs (Jasmine undertones)

For a natural, not overwhelming scent, I would recommend Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden or Pink by Gap. They're cheaper than the latter as well :) L'Occitane also has a verbena scent which smells like summer leaves & lemon.

I hope this helps! There are so many choices out there, so the best thing to do is to go to your nearest department store and just start TESTING! Try them all out until you find the perfect one for you!

There are even places that will mix scents to make the perfect scent for you. I'd look for a place like that if you REALLY can't find any generic brands you like.

Good luck!
And I hope this helped/helps! :D

I think it depends upon your age and what you like. I find high school and college girls like Velocity, it's clean fresh scent.

It's best to try the perfume on before you buy. Everyone's body chemistry is different. One perfume may smell different on each person.

Flower by Kenzo makes the most delicious baby powder(ish), - soft flower smelling perfume ever. It is one of those ones that you feel pretty wearing.

Also Alyssa Musk which can be found at CVS or something like that. It's very sexy and doesnt break the bank!

I really like Dolce and Gabbana 'Feminine', Dolce and Gabbana 'Light Blue', Gucci 'Envy', and Dior 'Addict'. But it depends what smells you like? Fruity, floral, clean, oriental, spicy etc. And if the perfume reacts with your skin. Some people get irritated skin, others get headaches. Its good to test them out and wear them for a few hours, to see how you like it!
