Not to mention, you tell people who were borned and raised a different religon they will burn in a fire for the rest of time? .. Yes, catholics are completely nuts, but you should get your facts straight before you post. First off, it was not an apple tree of sin, it was the tree of knowledge of good and bad. Second you cannot compare homosexuality with pedophilia. There is a very big difference. Homosexuality is practiced between 2 consenting adults but pedophilia among priests is the act of taking advantage of your position of authority to rob a child of their innocence. Yes catholics are nuts but it is just as insane to compare homosexuality with pedophilia. Not to mention that we can all agree that pedophilia is illegal and homosexuality is not.

I think you have Catholics mixed up with Baptists there, Catholics have a much more moderate view since Vatican II, a change in practices and ideologies, not a sequel, where as the Baptists are the hardliners with their crap of yoking (people of like faiths marrying), going to hell for not being christian, and talking about the tower of babel. Yes Catholics are responsible for the crusades, a nice little 300 year period where it was claimed to be spreading the faith back to the holy lands, but ended up being a pillage fest. And yes there is a problem with priests and molestations, but that's true in almost any religion or adult/minor relationship, your going to have those adults who just can't keep their hands to themselves, the news just splatters it over the place because people put priests up on these pedestals and forget that they are human. I was raised catholic and I can tell you I was shocked at some of the things I was told by friends who were raised protestant and baptists and what is taught, and don't get me started on these new age churches, they are no better in their teachings than the baptists.

because I am agnostic.
but (for a brief time) an officially recognized catholic. I was baptized before I had any say in it and attended the church just long enough for some of the mass to have some emotional impact on my psyche. Its nostalgia to me.
As a group and an organization YES...is the overall effect...but no because you have to realize its one of those institutions left over from the dark ages...I honestly think they got by because they were basically the worlds #1 tool of psychological warfare employed by the Spanish for quite a long time. They have hierarchy and money pouring in just like any other gang of kooks.
Otherwise besides the few prolific bad apples we tend to see on the news rather than not see on the news these days it seems, the few that I know in my family are highly ethical people. They dont prescribe a 1to1 directly literal interpretation but that the tree represents something...adam n eve etc.
Also is the argument that in the end its better to have faith than none at all.
Far more dangerous a mind if you ask me...a born again christian who can go around all day doing whatever kind of sinning then go home at night and pray to Jesus, and feel good about thier conscience...because its all in Jesus' hands.

No, we're not nuts, nor are we myopic about the world we live in. We believe that God isn't about "magic", and that "the apple tree of sin" really existed simply because even in a perfect place, there has to be basic rules/guidelines to be followed.

In the rest of what you wrote, it is the rot from "the apple tree of sin" called 'PRIDE', which you seem to be focusing on. Yes, Roman Catholicism is far from being perfect and clean. You have to understand that our religion is both way and means towards what we believe and accept as our ultimate goal: Eternal Life with our God, when ever and where ever that will be.

Besides, the frailty of what you write is the human condition, which my religion is the best tool (not the only one) to help me become better.

No just misguided......but hey who are we to judge everyone will find out in their own time, about what will happen when they die. Until then, try to be good and kind to others, and you should have a relitively peaceful life without a need for religion, or a need to belive in something.
