I applied for a job- had 3 interviews- I was told that my experience, et al was just what they were looking for. I was told by head of dept. that I had the job- then HR sent a letter rescinding the job offer, after reading my resume! They had the resume for 4 months. Nothing new! Can I do anything about this, since I gave up other job interviews, being under the assumption that I HAD A JOB! I really want this job- I feel that there is something wrong- Discrimination perhaps? Please help me figure this one out. Thanks

I forgot to mention that I walk with a limp, because of a dehabilitating condition in my joints~ also I am 53 years of age. There were NO age requirements though and the job is NOT physical!

What a bummer! They should have looked at your resume a long time ago! Unfortunately, it means nothing, unless you can prove they are discriminating against you. I knew a girl that got hired with a company, worked for 2 weeks, then they fired her for lying on her application. You can ask them why the rescinded, but I doubt it will get you anywhere.
Just keep looking, there is a job with your name on it out there somehwere. Good luck Hon!

This is a tough one but unfortunately they can do whatever they want .. things may have changed for the company and now they don't want you, or maybe they require certain qualifications that you lack. Anybody can sue anybody for anything...but that does not mean that you will win the case. You will probably NOT get very far if you try and sue. They will find some reason why they were not able to hire you. Unless you had a formal, written job offer from HR they will say that the person who made the offer did not have the authority to do that. Don't waste your time trying to force the situation ..move on..something else will come up!
Good luck!

I can only say, be happy you did not start working. If someone can say you have a job and then rescind it sounds very suspicious. It sounds as though they have found someone else more suited to the job than you and are just making excuses.
Contact the company you wish to work for personally, even go around there and talk to the personal chief, I am sure they will appeciate you having the guts to do so!
If you can get some proof then you could sue..but it would not garantie you getting a job even if you won, so what is the point?

I know how you feel. I don't think you can sue them with good chance of winning. In my company there was a person who accepted the offer and did not show up the day started working. The company can not sue the person either. Think about the future.
1) it is the paper that counts, not someone, whether it is the CEO, who said informally you have the job. It is the paper, black and white with signature, that counts.
2) there is really no permanent job. Unless you are the boss, employees can be terminated anytime if not for illegal reasons such as race, age, religion.
The world is big out there. don't bother to burn any bridges. Look forward. good luck.

You are what some HR Professionals call a "two pointer", over 40 and disabled.
Go to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and file complaints for age discrimination under Titile VII Civil Rights Act and disability discrimination under the Americans With Disability Act.

if there were background checks, credit checks, criminal history checks and something popped up that could be why. i was a retail manager and i hired a nice kid to fill a part time position and after working for about a week & a half iwas told by my HR department i had to let him go because of a petty theft issue in his past. if anything like this is the case you have no grounds to sue. if there is nothing negative in your past that could have caused this contact the better business bureau and find out what actions you can take. good luck

I would have to say that unless you had a written contact with the company, there is no way you can prove that you were discriminated against.

Unless you can prove that they recinded it for reasons that are illegal (race, gender, etc.) you have nothing to sue them on. Sorry.

If they are talking to references, it looks pretty good.
