Submitting to search engines is key. Don't just submit to Yahoo and Google, though. Submit to as many as you can find, even ones you don't use. Be sure to submit to MSN. It is the default home page of the most used browser on Earth. Like Internet Explorer and MSN or not, that's good coverage. I've also found that MSN seems to give smaller sites a fairer shake than Google and Yahoo, the likes of which often drop your site completely out of the index at times.
MySpace is also a good way to promote, as is Bebo, and Facebook, but make sure it is blended with content so that people don't think all you're doing is trying to promote a website.
The most important thing, however, is to build a good site with a lot of content that is updated frequently. Otherwise, people will visit once, and then never return. A good site will get people to put links to it on their site. Publicity is good. Take it where you can get it.
Good luck!

no need to submit your site google... yahoo... msn all decent search engines will find your site without you doing a thing. You need thousands of people to link to your site, the more links you get the more the search engines think your site is imprtant. The text people link to you suggest to the search engiens what topic your site is about, so it helps to have your keyword in the linking text.
A lot of hard work and time... and fantastic site. Make good cotnent, people will come...
