I am working with some children for a contest, and I wanted to create a "antique" looking certificate to be awarded to the top 3 winners together with their prizes.

1. Is there anyway I can "age" regular A4 size papers?

2. Someone suggested I use parchment paper, but the only parchment paper I know are those similar to Waxed Paper used for baking and doesn't look very ancient nor "antiquish" hehe... are there alternative non-animal papers I can use?

1. Brew a very hot cup of coffe or tea
2. Lay a sheet or two of coppy paper on to a cookie sheet
3. Pour Tea/Coffe untill paper is wet
4. Drain the excess liquid
5. Put cookie sheet in oven and leave untill dry NOT LONGER
6. Do Not Leave Oven Unattended as paper could catch fire
7. after paper is dry use a match to burn edges

My method may not be what you want, but I'll share anyway. I make cards, so the parchment paper I'm thinking of may be a little different. The paper I'm thinking of is kind of translucent. Practice on a piece of typing paper first. If you have and dry oil body spray, you can use that. If not, regular baby oil will do. Either spray the dry oil on, or dribble the oil on and rub it around with a paper towel. Let it "dry" for a few days before using it. Because it does have oil on it, it might leave spots on regular paper.

Just go to a stationery or art supply store. Parchment paper is stocked for calligraphy and isn't extravagantly expensive.

Unless you're already a professional (in which case you wouldn't be asking) you don't want to use "real" parchment -- that is, animal skin. That requires tanning and degreasing and then treatment with a powdery stuff (forgot the name) to give you a smooth surface without the grease that would repel your ink.

I'd use inks to get that look. Ranger Industries has a line made specifically to "age" paper and can be found in stamp stores, lots of scrapstores including the major chains.

If you want to "free-hand" it, use a candle and not only singe the edges but quickly run the paper over the light but with just enough time for the paper to brown. This is fun and it's unique every time you do it. The design on the papers will never be the same twice.

Buy a fine linen paper wet (moisten) the paper and then bake it in the oven. Carefull not to exceed more than around 300f check it ever so often after about 1minutes it will become 'aged' when wetting add orange juice, milk or wine drops etc.ading splotches for unique 'age' patterns

Soak it in a weak tea. Try a few sheet to get the time and to make sure the ink doesn't run.
