Why do so many ppl work so hard for so long when anyone of us could die tomarrow. I am in college right now and it just seems almost pointless. What is the point of working your *** off for four years just to roll over into another job that is a pain in the ***. I mean whats the point. I am kind of interested in what all you have to think about why we all work so hard for.

i feel ya but i think it comes from our parents and our parents parents and so on. they worked hard because they had to and it stuck with them. so if you don't then you are considered lazy and they don't respect you. i guess according to the older generation working hard "builds character". we work to get what we want and what our children want. i suppose theres a point somewhere in this statement

I think the western world is unbalanced.

The 40hr week came from the union movement in Australia and came from the idea that there should be:
-8 hours of work
-8 hours of community service/social time, and
-8 hours of rest
in workers lives. This was formulated because of greedy bosses who were working the employees literally to death.

Its happening again.

People are not robots that are made to work 80+ hour weeks, and society crumbles when people have no time for community service (such as scouts, church, helping the sick and elderly, taking care of their extended family, etc).

There is a balance between slavery and not working at all. Its hard to find though.

The idea behind working hard in college is to be able to get out into the real world and work at something you enjoy. At least that is the way it was when I was in college. If you aren't working in a field you are interested in you are wasting your time. However if you are doing what you love to do every day is exciting.

Why do we work our butts off? Let me try anwering!

1. To be with the people we love (you need $ to travelling, etc)

2. to do the things we love (eg. I was told Bill Gates used to wake up in the night to create new games for other kids and now he isn't a millionaire for nothing)

3. To suffer in life!! To pay for the sinful things we did in our previous lives (if you believe in reincarnation)

4. To "waste" time. Some don't really need the money!

5. To gain a feeling of achievement and self-satisfaction

6. To be a useful person!

7. To relax more in our later years (retire with some kind of nest egg)

8. To pay phone bills and other living expenses. Some people have to pay for their siblings' school/college fees!

9. Some work to socialise!

When your passion is your work, it isn't really work. Hope these helps!

I could work less if I forego the luxury of a place to live and a decent car. Less munchies, no smokes, no movies, no life. If I want to have nice things then there is only one way to get them - work.

I work hard because lazy people on welfare depend on my tax dollars.

Plus to support other Liberal give away programs.
