Watching all these commercials on TV for trade schools (ie ITT Tech, Bryan Straton) and I wonder if a good job that pays for the tuition in the end is possible.

My cousin graduated from ITT and got a good job. I graduated from a non-accredited tech school in 1989 and lucked out getting a job although I found that they didn't teach everything that they should have. Most, if not all people that went to my school did not end up working in the computer field or anything closely related. I, fortunately, had military experience that helped me. Currently, I'm working in telecommunications.

I would suggest that any school you choose be regionally accredited like DeVry. That way, if you later decide that you want to transfer to a collage, then your credits will be accepted. None of the work I did at the now defunct tech School I went to is recognized. You can read information about accreditation here: http://distancelearn.about.com/od/accreditationinfo/a/regional.htm

Trade and Technical schools are good, but you must be careful of schools that are proprietary in nature, i.e. ITT, Devry, AIU, International Academy of Design and Technology etc. Please research these schools along with the corporations that own these schools. You will find many of theses schools may have had trouble with the government either in the past or currently.

In addition to this make sure you are not going to spend more money on the school then you need to. Check out local Junior Colleges and locally run Vo-tech institutes.

I went to the Ohio Center for Broadcasting. They have campuses in Cleveland, Cincinatti, Chicago and Denver. Excellent school. I'm now working at a radio station and loving every second! I have a passion for my field and the school gave me the tools to succeed. Attitude is key.
