U said beginners but u haven't mentioned the age:
so if it is a kid sth like "The ugly Duckling" will match perfect(not a novel though)
for a teenager "Harry Potter" definitely
and for an adult I would say all books written by Emily Bronte will suite u just fine (but it may be easier if u find them with levels and take the one that suites u most)

Try any of The Dan Brown novels ! They are awesome and easy to understand ! "The Da Vinci Code" was the first novel I read !

Even Harry Potter series are not difficult to understand.....

The Giver, it's not that huge of a book but good for beginners or you could also try Paul Coehlo's The Alchemist...Ü

Pride and Prejudice - it's easy to read and you'll love the characters. It was my first english novel.
