anything about politics from this forum? I've learned that there are quite a few radicals on both sides (liberatarians too) on here. If I give an answer that someone on the left disagrees with I sometimes get unsolicited nasty emails. Does this happen on both sides?

One more thing....all of the nasty emails (except one) have been from guys. What's up with that?

The first three answers said to edit my profile so people can't email me. I did that. I just think it's pretty sad that people can be so rude. Thanks for all of your suggestions.

People can get passionate about their political views. Especially the further to the left/right one gets. Throw in religion and it makes for a powderkeg waiting to be set off. Best advice is to turn off your personal information if you dont want people giving you their nasty points of view.

I assure you it happens both directions, and I would have advised the same thing to you had it not already been advised and heeded.

It's very, very rare, but occasionally I find someone on the other side of the aisle that I can at least disagree with and respect at the same time, but it's rare.

Honestly, it's mostly become a place to vent frustrations with the right, who I see as ruining the country right now (NOT that I've thought they always have - it's a recent thing). And I'm sure that it's a place for the right to accuse the left of being America-haters and supporting NAMBLA (both of which I've read in the last three minutes).

It's all drivel and nothing but, but sometimes it's fun to lay it on the other side. If I want serious discussion there's a lot better places to go.

I have not learned anything about Politics, within the "Answers" forum. I have been involved in it for too many years, and my opinions have been formed through years of observation, study and research.
What i have found astonishing, in most cases, is the fact that some peoples political views are tarnished with a thick layer of absolute bull$hit. It`s clearly obvious that they have answered a question based on information spewed out by the likes of Fox News. I just wish they would do a little leg work first.

I haven't learned much, but there are a few interesting liberals on these boards who sound like they'd be worth swapping ideas with. (I'm conservative, but enjoy talking with people who think differently from me more than I like talking to those who spout my party line: Ultimately, I'm more interested in good ideas than I am in rooting for my political team.) The problem is that this arrangement isn't well suited to actual dialogue. If someone says something interesting, I usually can't try to follow up with questions: For reasons you will readily understand, they usually have turned off their email and IM information. And they're not alone: I've turned off my settings, too, so if folks think I sound like an interesting sounding board, they can't contact me either.

For this reason, I've been staying away from the political threads for the most part. I'm spending most of my time in subject-matter areas, and giving advice to kids who are struggling with essays. I'd love to find a good political forum again, where I can exchange ideas with folks from the other side who don't resort to rage and spittle, but in my experience, most such havens disintegrate over time as my worst associates and their worst associates flock in, waving their banners and showing off their team pride.

It's nice to see that some people are still looking for my kind of conversation, though. Gives me hope for humanity overall.

what have I learned?

that america, as much as I love her, is in need of some serious help. we have the neonazi socialist liberals selling the US to the highest bidder, under the guise of "we need to be conserned with what they think" and the republicans that are so far to the right they are in the left.

washington said it best when he said that political parties would be the worst thing to happen to the states.

If you don't want to be contacted, edit your profile to where they can't contact you. I don't think people come on here to learn anything. They already have an opinion and nothing is going to change it.

Take your personal info off. Then they can't contact you. No emails, IM's etc.
