No. Japan slaughtered tens of millions of chinese language civilians in lots an identical indiscriminate way that the Nazis taken care of the Jews, Gypsies and Slavs. The colonial powers interior the section back after the war. sure, there have been on the spot independance strikes in French Indochina (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos), yet not interior the British Territories of Malaya (Malaysia and Singapore) and Burma (now Myanmar). The independance stream in India were occurring for some 20 years in simple terms before the outbreak of war. What WW2 did higlight, even nonetheless, became into that the colonial powers could not surely do the only element that the inhabitants of those places anticipated of them: they could not look after them (even nonetheless, contained related to France, issues would have been diverse had they not been defeated so right this moment in Europe by potential of the Germans). The exception to this became into India, however the adult men combating the eastern from the Indian borders have been Indian, not British. in fact, the war might have long previous very otherwise if some 2 million Indian infantrymen hadn't been combating (because of the fact the British Indian military) in North Africa, and then Franc eand Italy. The war in Africa could have been lost, yet Britain might nonetheless have maintained naval superiorit interior the Mediterranean and Atlantic (which became into surely gained with relative ease - Britain became into by potential of a few distance the superb naval capacity in the international on the time, and were for some 350 years). yet I digress. No, Japan did not libeate absolutely everyone from something. They enslaved, oppressed, tortured, imprissoned and achieved the persons everywhere they went. even nonetheless, the faliure of the Colonial powers to correctly shield the borders instilled interior the natives a clean (and surely justified) longing for self governence. So, in a roundabout way, the eastern incursion into the Asian mainland delivered an end to the colonial era (a solid element). yet they should not be credited with liberating absolutely everyone. They have been on a venture of conquest themselves, and easily sought to usurp the Europeans as overlords.

thats what the japanese called it. :) sure they drove off western colonial powers in southeast asia, but not out of any humane desire to liberate the people there. the japanese wanted power themselves. but one important thing they did do was show the people of those nations that the colonial powers were vulnerable. britain's use of indian soldiers in WWI and WWII was a major cause of indian independence. the defeat of the french at the hands of the japanese encouraged the vietnamese and lao to resist the french once the japanese had been defeated. so maybe they did play a major role in ending western colonialism in that area, but it certainly wasn't out of humane interests.
