when you past the written part you dont have to do the driving part right away right just want to get the permit and learn. I'm 18. also if I dont pass the eye exam in the beginning do they allow me to take written or do I have to wait till i get new glasses? My vision is average but probably wont be able to see the little letters even though when im driving with someone i can see the sign words perfect.

Hi there. I am from IL but I worked at the DMV for 4 years. You are 18 and wanting to get a permit to practice right? You need to take the vision test first and if you dont pass they will either tell you to get contacts or glasses from home and come back or they will have you not take the vision and take the written part but you will only be issued a receipt until you take the vision to get the permit. Now because you are 18 you dont need the practice at the school. You can take all the tests if you feel you are ready. But if you feel you need the practice then get the permit first. It lasts for 1 year of the date you are issued it after passing vision and written. I hope that helped! If you have anymore q's just email me. kimberleyewald@yahoo.com

Memorize the letters, they are the same ones they have used for years everywhere. Also don't stress it, if my 93 year old grandfather can get a license still you should not be a problem.

if you don't pass the vision test they will simply put "needs to wear corrective" lenses" on your license.
