It is high-risk behavior unless several precautions are taken. The most important ones are to void the bowels completely (like, with an enema) first and NEVER, NOT EVER, fail to wash completely for both parties, using plenty of soap (enough to make suds on the washcloth). The man MUST wash penis and testicles and it won't do any harm to wash the whole area. The woman needs to be equally thorough, paying special attention to the perineum (the area between the anus and the vagina). This is true even if the man used a rubber.

It is "excruciatingly painful" for a woman if she really, REALLY doesn't want to do it this way -- the anal sphincter contracts by reflex (same as blinking your eye if somebody gets a finger near it, catch on?). This is a powerful muscle and for the male to force it open (which isn't easy) is painful and can cause tearing of the tissues, the "extensive damage" you ask about. Since the anus comes in direct contact with feces (****), this can cause nasty infections. But the act itself isn't necessarily painful: the anus can accomodate stools (turds) as big as any normal penis. Women who do anal sex willingly can find it a turn-on. (Lady Chatterley did, if you've ever read that book.) But some think it's "nasty", and that can spoil any chance of having fun at it. And some think it's degrading to them to submit to such "unnatural" treatment -- Lord Byron's wife divorced him because he tried it on her despite her objections. (This was in the Olde Days when the wife was more or less the husband's property and not allowed to object.)

Anyway, it CAN be done safely, but if I may put on my Dutch Uncle hat for a minute or two, don't even think of doing it (or lketting your boyfriend do it to you, if you're a woman) unless both of you are in perfect agreement and have the sense to take the first few times slow and careful. And use about twice as much lubricant as you think you'll need -- there are no lubricating glands in the lower bowel, as there are in the vagina.

It's only high risk behavior when it comes to diseases. My wife loves it and it is not at all painful to her. We do it very hard and have even experimented with anal fisting. As long as you don't go so far as to try and tear something, it should be fine. There's a great book out there called, "A Woman's Guide to Anal Sex" by Tristan something or another (look it up on Amazon - that's where we bought it) that has a lot of practical information.

Enjoy!

I believe to each his (or her) own, but its not for me. My high school health teacher taught me that it does do damage to the anus because its elasticity is not quite like the vagina's. She said eventually you wont be able to control when go. Dont know how true that is but it has kept me away all these years. Ask your doctor.

I think it would depend on if the woman wants it or not. Plus lots of KY Jelly and go slow. Good Luck! :)
