Why does heavy metal/hard rock offend people so much?

Its seems that everywhere you go people are offended by it. Like the other day at work we were asked to bring our fav song(s) of the 90s. We played everyone's songs from R&B to Country to Jazz you name it and we listened to the songs from start to finsh many with profanity. I brought in Slipknot's Wait and Bleed and Metallica's Enter Sandman and both songs were stopped within 20 seconds of starting. People were liked you can't listen to that music its bad and all that nonsense. NOW I have co-workers that won't even say good morning to me anymore and I have been completely alienated by some of my co-workers over the music I listened to. I'm sorry metal is all I listen to. Many of my co-workers are like you must be a violent white male to listen to that. Like a white guy in his early 20s not listening to rap so unnormal.

Because most of the times, people associate heavy metal with the devil. I love hard rock music but don't really care too much about heavy metal. And plus the concerts of heavy metal and hard rock are usually associated with drugs and sex. And most of the time with heavy metal, there's usually no melody to it, just noise and screaming. So I guess that's why my heavy metal music is very limited, lol. I like 2 songs from Metallica. "Doesn't really matter" and "The Unforgiven"- love that song, and it's one of my favorite rock songs.

I wish I worked with you so we headbang together and tell your co-works to screw off. Metal has always been the music for out casts, even though there are a couple million of us. People either hate metal or love it. People who hate hear the screaming and powerful instruments and are horrified. They just don't understand it.

Well I believe it is you're bad taste in metal that gets you alienated Slipknot sucks *** and Metallica lost all talent after Master Of Puppets. If you are gonna listen to metal at work you have to be metal. Anyone who touches the sterio while my metal is playing is in serious danger of losing a limb.

Because for many people, the music sounds very harsh and grating, not very 'pleasant' to listen to, as the stereotype shows that there is a lot of screaming/yelling, as opposed to what most people consider singing.

Also, the lyrics can include 'offensive' topics.

But alas, to each their own.

Well, I like some of it. But probably because it's so agressive. A lot of people don't like screaming and yelling in their ear. i mean, listen to the title of that Slipknot song you mentioned. Wait and Bleed. Bleed? and the name alone. Slip. Knot.

I'm with you I love heavy metal G'n R Metallica AC/DC.It is because most non metal heads cannot hear what is being said,and it is too loud.I will love it on my 50 th wedding aniversary!
