Hi pinky didi! Whenever we get enough amount of foam by the application of a little soap,we say that the water is soft. Water from some sources, instead of producing foam, forms sticky particles. Such water is called hard water. This is the right answer because i have written this in my previous exam (Biotechnology-class vii). Please choose my answer as the best because i want to earn more points because my points are only 76. Ok. Bye.

Hard water is the water which contains carbonates and bicarbonates. Hard water does not produce foam. The hardness can be removed temporarily or permenantly. Temporary hardness is obtained by boiling. Permanent hardness removal can be done by treatment of the water by various methods. The hardness is determined by titration with EDTA.

Hard water contains minerals such as calcium carbonate, which makes soap less soapy and leaves residue on your glasses and dishes after washing.

Soft water is treated to remove the minerals.
