First and foremost, how a couple defines their relationship is of absolutely no concern to anyone else, those who have an "open" gay relationship are no different than the married swingers in the heterosexual community.
Second, I do NOT think that faithfulness is unrealistic, I actually know from experience that it does exist, it does happen, and is a realistic goal for a relationship between two gay men just as it is for any heterosexual couple.
I really don't know what superficial, flighty, vapid types you hang around but I do know that your viewpoints are in no way representative of the gay community at large or any group of gays that I know of except for the few barflys that haven't been out of the closet for more than 3 years. You'll understand things better once you grow up a bit.

That has got to be the most narrow minded thinking Ive ever heard! Are you for real? You make gay seem like a disease or something. I'm not even going to finish this answer because it would be pretty pointless because you seem to pretty much have it wrapped up all in one tidy hypocritical mess already and no matter what I would say would have little meaning! All I can say is we have changed little evolutionary wise since the Romans fed their unwanted to the hungry lions! Its rather disgusting to see this too! You and Bush seem to think alot alike!

IndyT says it perfectly.
I've been with my partner for 16 years.
I am proof that faithfulness is realistic.
I strongly believe that a large percent of "younger" or "recently out" gay people would have much trouble with faithfulness.
It's too new and exciting and they want to sow their oats.
When we get a little older we tend to want to settle down.
Your views will change as you get older.

my partner and I have been entirely faithful to each other for almost 2 years - it is possible you just need to understand the consequences of a committed relationship and be honest and talk to each other and TRUST each other

I think you should say that sh*t to the heteros. 60%+ of them are cheating already. So don't blame hot gay guys for "promiscuity" when breeders are overpopulating the world so much. At least we're open about sleeping with other people. We can't help it if it's easier for us to get laid.
