If you did get a virus prior to installing Mcafee, you are probably not going to find the virus. I would suggest trying Mcafee's free online virus scan or other online virus scans. If you find you have a virus, Mcafee and other sites will give steps to remove a virus or offer a download to remove the virus. You may have to do a complete reinstallation of Windows to remove a suspected virus.

If any of the scans shows spyware/adware, you will need to get a program to remove the unwanted files. Spy Sweeper is a good program, but PC Word states that Spy Doctor does a better job at removing the files. Spybot did not do a real good of job of spotting adware/spyware, but what can be expected of free software.

You don't have a virus, you're overloaded with spyware and adware. McAfee won't see it.

If you want to pay for a good killer, I recommend Spy Sweeper by Webroot (webroot.com), it's one of the best. For free, the best ones are Lavasoft's Ad-Aware SE Personal (lavasoft.com) and Spybot Search & Destroy (download.com).

Download any one of these, install, and run. You'll be running perfectly again in no time! To keep everything running fine, you'll also want McAfee's Firewall, to keep other sites and hackers from accessing your computer.

Yep they are hiding... Kinda late though as you said but the next time better have an emergency disk with you so that if it happens again and use the emergency disk feature I think you need 3 diskettes for that so that you can boot on a clean boot-up and the emergency disk will scan the viruses through DOS mode.

If it was hiding , it should still show up in the scan . Run a disk clean-up ; and also a disk defragmentor . If you haven't done that -it could be the culprit .

Normally that happens when you have more than one firewall running, such as you may have had windows firewall activated when you added MaAffee, turn off the windows firewall, you will probably see a difference in your computer speed.
