Offered a promotion but not sure if I can afford moving there on this salary because of the high cost of living. I am trying to save some cash and pay off student loans too - can I do this on that salary there. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

go to www.bankrate.com and use the salary equivilant calculator. as an example, 30k in georgia is the same as 70k in nyc.

You can make it, as long as you take the subway, like a lot of people do, wealthy or not, they do, it has nothing to do with it, it's a matter of convenience. You can get an apartment and get a roommate, someone you trust. I don't know how much your student loans are, but you can only go up, up the latter, don't listen to anyone who gives bad advice, you don't have to live in the Bronx, or rent a guest house outside of Manhattan like in Maseppequa. My ex boyfriend lives there with his parents. It's very nice.

If you live in the Bronx and take the subway - $100K will go very far.

If you don't go out much and don't have a car, you may be able to afford a studio apartment.
