when i pop a disc into the drive and it closes i try to run something but a message pops up saying "Please insert a disc" when i already have. what do i do to fix it? could i have accedentaly eraseed the file? the computer is a Dell Demension E310. i realy need to get it fixed soon. thanks.

It's possible that the driver for the drive is corrupt. Right click on "My Computer" and choose properties by clicking on it. Click on the "Hardware" tab, and then click on "Device Manager".
In the list of devices, find the particular drive you're having trouble with, by clicking on the + sign next to "DVD/CD-ROM drives".
On the drive you're having trouble with, right click on that drive in the list and choose "Uninstall" by clicking on that choice. Say Yes when it asks if you're sure you want to uninstall the drive. Then exit from that utility.
Now reboot the computer, and Windows should find the drive as "new hardware" and install the driver for it, which should fix the problem. Good luck.

Its a hardware problem. The cd drive is not recognizing the cd placed inside, call a hardware engineer and rectify the problem.

try cleaning it with windex , if that doesnt work, blow on the lens, if that doesnt work......... if its original then its scrached and u should hope it would work on a computer or if its a burned cd then it might not of burned right
