My favorite movies are Pink Floyd The Wall (only watch if you're a Floyd fan and a special kind of crazy) & Frank Herbert's Dune - the new edition with William Hurt in it, not the old one (omg that one was horrid). Be prepared, it's like 5 hours long. Totally worth it. Contains almost 100% of the book.

Since "Hard Boiled" was already mentioned, I'll choose something else...
"Heathers" is a great black comedy starring Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, and Shannon Daugherty. I want to say circa 1989-1990... definitely worth checking out! Plus, it might be about $5 to buy at Wal-Mart.

Night Watch. Its a film from Russia, but the DVD does have an english track. Seriously, out of Russia, it is not what you might expect, but it is really good. Doesn't quite follow the book though.....

Not that rare of a suggestion, but if you havn't seen it, Momento is thrilling, action packed, a mystery, and romance all packed into a great story with a crazy twist.
OMG I sound like such a friggin advertisement right now... Anyways, it is good!

For straight comedy, you also got "Run, Ronnie, Run!" and "Basketball."

Quills
I have no idea how mainstream it is, but when I mention it to people, they say they've never heard of it. It's really, fantastically, dark and wonderful, though.
