Does it make you feel good when you see a lot of letters in your mailbox? Do you think most people ask questions because they 'really' want to know something, or just because, they want to be 'verified' to exist.

Oh this is lovely. I am getting all sorts of interesting little bits of thought. Yeah, sometimes I have a purpose to a question I ask, but other times I just want to see who is amusing and what funny thing or bright piece of advice might be given, but right tonight I was just feeling like having some mail and neat answers are a bonus.

Wow....this question is certainly above the usual fare around here.

Everyone has their motives, but this format has it's advantages. There is definately more of an egotistic element in Answers, because we are all showing our "wisdom" through not only our answers, but our questions as well. We are exposing ourselves in an entirely different way than say, in chat. But because it's advice and opinion driven, you are virtually guaranteed a response (read: reaction) to what you are asking.

For me, I don't know if lonliness is a component of why I ask questions....some are practical, some are silly, some are deep. Sometimes I just want to ask a question to reveal something about me more than to get information.

I hope that doesn't sound too narcissistic. But in the final analysis, this is what we are all seeking here whether we admit it or not; a forum to be heard, a chance to be known, a way to be affirmed.

Great question.

I don't mean to sound like a smart aleck, but there are so few questions I want to ask! I'd much rather answer--especially when the question is clearly sincere, & something in which I have substantial knowledge. What I REALLY like are the Yahoo e-mails that tell me my answer was chosen as best, because then I feel I've really helped someone. As for other people's motivations--well--that's all over the lot. Some just like to be rabble rousers & are very foolish. I ignore them. I just got into this first of September, & after a long busy day, it's really kinda fun. Makes you think, too. Could be very addictive!!

It really depends on what subject the question is in and what the question is. Asking if a plasma tv is better than an lcd tv wouldn't normally be asked by someone that doesn't care about the answer.

But a philosophical question, or an ethics question, or a question like yours can be simply for the companionship and knowing that someone is pondering your thoughts. Sometimes its nice to know that someone is connecting to us whatever the media.

I don't think receiving email answers would be much verification of existance, but I suppose it could be for some people.

I ask questions when I am bored or lonely sometimes, mostly, I answer them.

Not really, About 90% of my questions are because I am really seeking knowledge about a certain thing. Although I do get bored and stay on here for many many hours researching, thinking hard & answering a lot of questions. Thinking I might be helping someone else. I don't get lonely a lot, as there is always activity here , I actually enjoy the quiet time.

I have observed that most of the questions are not serious questions which indicates that people just want to kill some time because they are bored.

it's simply that people are looking for a way to socialize.

asking questions and answering questions is the best way to socialize without the bullshit.
