Genital warts are the result of a sexually transmitted virus. The warts may appear like a flat mole on a man's penis, or in/or near the anus. Woman may experience genital warts on the labia or outer folds of skin surrounding the vaginal, as well as inside the vagina. Women may also have genital warts in or near the anus. Genital warts are warty-looking growths on the private parts cause by HPV, or human papilloma virus. These are also called condylomata accuminata or condyloma accuminata. The are found internally and external in women and usually on the penis or scrotum in men, but may spread to the thighs, groin, and anal area in either sex.

They may overgrow to the size and appearance of cauliflower, especially in the chronically ill, those on chemotherapy or immunosuppressants or those with HIV/AIDS or other immune system problems.

HPV can also cause cervical cancer.
