HELL NO!!!!!
That is just about the last place on earth where there is true freedom left!! Think about this for a moment,Politicians make the laws that make things illegal, otherwise they would not be illegal, and you could partake in anything you felt desired to-Amsterdam,just have modern,DEMOCRATIC,progressive politicians, that have learned from Americas FAILED drug-war.After the Billions upon Billions that have been pumped into the drugwar since the 1930's,and drug use is still on the rise, you would think anyone could see, it's time to back off and take another look at other countries ways of dealing with stuff-Our home of the free has been"in my opinion only in the last 6 years",the home of the Factist and oppressed! But that's just me talking-I gotta go before the Gestapo comes for me!!

YES YES YES!!!!! Amsterdam is just such a great city, apart from the fact you can drink, buy drugs and go to hookers, and it's legal.

Check out this:
- het Leids plein
- The Anne Frank museum in the centre is a nice experience, but you'll see that it's just a house, and you need to picture the history behind it.
- See Amsterdam from the rivers. (You can rent litlle boats, 'watertrappelen' )
that's a lot of fun.
-Go see the red district. It a neighbourhood where there are alot of prostitutes, but don't worry, it's very nice and beautiful to see, a lot of tourist check this place out.
- the old church
-National Maritime Museum: but first of all you have to be interested in boats, and only if you are a boat freak, i wouldn't go there if i was only one day in amsterdam.
-The town hall
-For art lovers: Rembrandt House and Van Gogh museum (nice!)
- Vondelpark (nice!)
- You can rent a bike to see more streets and small paths.
-Munttoren en muntplein
-The moulin rouge of amsterdam. (but i think the one in paris is better)
- the house of madame toussauds in the centre
- If you want to go shopping, you must go to the kalverenstraat. Also the Damrak and the Nieuwendijk are good places to shop. Small shops can be found between Raadhuisstraat , Bloemenmarkt / Leidse Plein.
-de dam
-the ROYAL palace
-.......
-Drink something on the leidse plein, it's very beautiful

==>enjoy

It's not a bad idea. It will be good fun.

But just for the record, in Holland there is a difference between "cafes" and "coffee shops". Cafes serve food and coffee. Not drugs.

If you want cannabis you need to visit a "coffee shop". They are usually quite easy to recognise and have a green and white sign on the front saying something like "licenced coffee shop".

Since the question leads me to assume you are into the Cannabis culture, I'd say you would be in Heaven. I wish I could go there and check it out for a week. I'd hit the coffee houses, then after getting nicely high, take my camera and photograph the town, then return in the evening to the coffee house for some more herb.

more than bad is a stupid idea, Amsterdam has many nice place to visit such as the park near by the casino or just walking around the canals or visiting museums: the vangh gogh or the other one where there are the fiammingo painters....and amsterdam it self is a nice city, then why just waste your time in coffe shops?

Yes. I'd think you'd want to visit some of the hotels too, especially at night.

If that is what your in to, your welcome but:
1. outside the bars you may possess only 5 gr. of soft drugs.
2. no dealing
3. no hard drugs (heroin, xtc and stuff) at all
4. not around children

If you do the 1 to 4 above we will put you in jail he he :-)

Personally I think it is a wast of time, money and your health. This country has more to offer.

Absolutely NOT. I had the best time there a few years ago....
Just make sure you don't lose your head too much so that you miss out on exploring the city!

You mean for the coffee shops? Of course not, if that's what you're into. Just remember to smoke it there because you can't bring it back with you!
