The Libertarian Party is founded on the principle of Self Ownership. Since that same principle is shared by everyone, it basically means that each individual is free to do anything they are able to do, short of initiating violence on other people.

Each person who joins the Libertarian Party is required to take a pledge that they are against the initiation of force. Mind you, that doesn't prohibit responding to force with force, just against being the first one to use any kind of force. Force includes fraud and coercion.

Recognizing the fact that all governments have only force to effect their policies, regardless of organization or economic system, the Libertarian views of government policy often begin with the question of whether some goal (e.g., universal health care) is a legitimate use of force; after all, universal health care will only work if someone is forced to provide it, whether by conscripting doctors or confiscating tax money to pay them.

Freedom from force. That's what we stand for.
