if they could talk and make sense that would be a sign of intellect. it would be very difficult to kill and eat something of that sort.

Parrots CAN talk, and killing them isn't murder. As far as I know, murder only counts if you're killing another human (that's right, legally, killing intelligent aliens is not murder).

Killing them with no thought or consideration is murder, whether they can talk or not.We should only kill to eat, not more, or to protect the human species. Beyond that, it is senseless and cruel!!

It would depend on money and power. We could always invent a reason that they deserve to be killed. Fairly recently it was fine to kill American Indians. I think they could talk just fine.
