Yeah there is a set limit, depends on what your motherboard will hold. Drop me an e-mail with what your computer model number is and I can tell you what that limit is for your system.

I personally am a gamer as well and I play both world of warcraft and Oblivion on 512 ram. Memory always makes things faster don't get me wrong but unless you are playing oblivion(which is the only game I have ever had lag) I would say try for a better video card. They have memory as well. Get nothing lower than a 128. I would suggest Nvidia or Raedon, but nonetheless yes it most likely will help taking memory up a notch.

Some computers only max at 512 Ram, others 1 gb or even 2 or 3 gb. Yes it will help if you are at your max Ram as compaired to only being at half of the max. Search online or look in your manual to find out how much Ram your computer can go up to!

If you have a high end machine you can load 8 gigs but the standard machine is built to handle 1 gig if it isn't more than a year or so old. It does'nt matter how many slots you have. your motherboard is built and configured to handle a maximum amount of RAM. So if you try to load a 2 gig stick into that open slot and your machine is built to handle 1 gig and you have a 256 megs in the first slot it only leaves you with the capasity to manage 744 more megs. I hope this helps. "PEACE"

Try a mother board which will enable you to have that capacity, I have seen a few on newegg.com which have a cap of 16MB, on a motherboard which was for a home computer, only it was for DDR2 800, which is a little pricey
BTW it was an AMD motherboard, only supporting Dual Core Processors.
