Anarchy (Greek: αναρχία) is the anarchist society, the stateless society of free people. Anarchism is the name of a political philosophy, or a generic term for a group of more-or-less related political philosophies, derived from the Greek an-archos ("without archons" or "without rulers"). Thus, "anarchism," in its most general semantic meaning, is the belief that all forms of rulership are undesirable and should be abolished.
One who practices anarchy does not believe in political or moral authority, but may believe in voluntary leadership.
The rise of anarchism as a philosophical movement in the late 18th century, with its notion of freedom as being based upon political and economic self-rule. It was a reaction to the rise of the nation-state and large-scale industrial capitalism.
Although anarchists are unified in the rejection of the state, they differ about economic arrangements and possible rules that would prevail in a stateless society. On this issue anarchists differ widely, ranging from advocates of complete common ownership and distribution according to need, to supporters of private property and free market competition. For example, most forms of anarchism, such as that of anarcho-communism, not only seek rejection of the state, but also other systems which they perceive as authoritarian, which includes capitalism and private property.
Many individualist anarchists are mutualists - they support capitalism in terms of private ownership of both products and means of production, but reject "usary" (rent, interest, and profit from other's labor.) A more modern branch of individualism called anarcho-capitalism supports non-statist capitalism fully. Thus, both branches support individual sovereignty, free trade, free competition and private property.
The word "anarchy", as most anarchists use it, does not imply chaos, nihilism, anomie or the total absence of rules, but rather an anti-authoritarian society that is based on voluntary association of free individuals in autonomous communities, operating on principles of mutual aid and self-governance.

It's everyone for himself.
A normal government has laws to achieve order and a police force or military to see that all citizens obey the laws.
In an anarchy, those laws are disregarded and the police force is ineffective. Special interest groups have their own militias to enforce THEIR rule. The criminal element is the only one that wins.
Sound like Iraq? It pretty much is on the edge. We're maintaining order over there with the help of a few police units. In the meantime, the criminal element is backing this militia and that insurgency and keeping any kind of effective government from forming. That's what anarchists do.

Anarchy literally means without government. It is based on the idea that humans have social instincts that are mutually supportive when not interfered with by politicians and law enforcement agencies.
Naturally, the power hungry people who become government agents hate anarchists. And the feelings are mutual.
Whenever there is rioting because of government abuses, the media calls it anarchy.
Personally, I don't know if we can have an effective human society without government. But I do see our present government causing more problems than it solves.

Anarchy is the theory that equality and justice are to be sought through the abolition of the state and the substitution of free agreements between individuals. Central to anarchist thought is the belief that society is natural and that people are good but are corrupted by artificial institutions. Also central in anarchism are the belief in individual freedom and the denial of any authority, particularly that of the state, that hinders human development. Since the Industrial Revolution, anarchists have also opposed the concentration of economic power in business corporations.

Anarchy is the absence of a central government of any kind. It is NOT lawlessness or chaos, not necessarily. Many anarchists simply believe that we could and should co-operate without the need of an oppressive government.

Anarchy is about rebellion against government, religion, society and humankind. Anarchy is the total opposite of law and order (destruction and hate. The end of the world kind of thing.).

Anarchy is offensive actions, with total lack of empathy for other humans , driven by the force of urgency to realise a self-centered goal to overpower others around !

Anarchy is a social philosophy that rejects government. It is a ideal society to some because there is no state control, thus the society is absolutely free because there is no government to impose laws.
