Why should they be? They live in places no thinking person would want to- humid, skeeter-filled swamps.
If people are dumb enough to try to build or live in places like this, why should the gators suffer?

There are no creatures on this earth that should be killed for no reason. Only kill an animal when you are either in immediate danger from that animal killing you and there is no other way out of the situation or if you are planning on eating the meat from your kill.
Those who kill animals "because they should be" need to be shot themselves.
