Do the Amish have Health Insurance?
If they don't pay taxes do they still have to pay for the Medical Bills? (my husband thinks this portion of the question is stupid...sorry)
Are they registered citizens? Do they have social security cards?

My family is friends with a few Amish people and believe me when I say they have plenty of money. But there is still a fund that was set up at a local bank for people to contribute.

Most Amish don't believe in health insurance,they pay for their medical bills in cash.I remember seeing a show about an Amish person who was in the hospital,their family brought a box of cash to pay their bill.
They are American citizens,therefore they pay taxes just like the rest of us,same goes for the social security.
The Amish don't usually believe in banks,at least the older generation,therefore,most of their bills are paid in cash for whatever they need.They all take care of each other,if someone needs something,everyone is there to help.
They are a fascinating group of people.I live not far from the area where this tragedy took place.

I have done extensive reshearch on the Amish people and contrary to what a lot of people think, they do pay taxes. All of the same taxes as the rest of us pay. As for health care, they do not carry insurance. They pay all of their own medical expenses. If they cannot handle the bill themselves, then the rest of the Amish community steps in to help them take care of it. They are a very self sufficient group of people They do not collect social security benefits at retirement or accept medicare/medicaid.

The Amish are far from poor people, They are registered citizens, And also they take care of each other If there was a member of there community that was mentally ill they will still rally around the family of the perpetrators surviving members.

it doesnt matter if you pay taxes, you still have to pay for your medical bills. Why wouldnt they have social security cards? They are us citizens. Who cares if there registered to vote, that has nothing to do with anything.

the amish sell food, furniture and other hand made items for income. our taxes will pay for there medical bills. they do have social security cards and bank accounts.
