i know quite a few women that can't cook even a basic meal and their house is a mess! what's the problem?

We all wonder how our parents "did it all". My parents constantly wonder how I do what I do. My wife doesn't cook every meal, get the clothes washed timely, or keep the house spotless. There are many nights I wouldn't think of inviting anyone over.
But, when I was growing up, us kids had maybe 1 or two sports or activities a year. Mine have 1 or 2 a season! We tend to be more over-indulgent on our kids than our parents, spend an everage of 4-10 hours more each week at work, and have much larger houses and far more clothes than our families did when we were young. My mom had one bathroom to clean and I think I had like 3 pairs of jeans. We now live in a 5 bed, 3 full, and 2 half bathroom home. That's a lot of toilets to clean!!!! :)
God bless you for taking care of business around your home. but, society has changed dramatically the last 20 years. My brother in law is a stay at home dad (BTW - his place is spotless and he cooks almost every night), and I really value the ladies that work for me at the office.
You are not old fashioned, you just have few ideals we don't all value the same as you.

More than likely it's because their mothers didn't make them take care of their rooms and homes while they were growing up. It's all goes down how they were raised. It is pretty sad but sometimes though, many people are coming from single parent homes where there is only a mother or father and there isn't enough time in the day to teach these basic things. Does it really matter? It's not your house...show them how it is done.

Well, its not just women, there are plenty of men who dont know how to cook a basic meal or keep a clean house. And it's probably because they were never taught or they dont choose to know....

Because these days, women can concentrate on other things. Even though I pride myself on my homemaking ability, I'm grateful for that. My brother and I were both taught how to clean and cook; I think *everyone* needs to know those things.

I used to ask that question about my ex all the time she don't clean don't cook and won't go out and get a job it was so tring i finally had enough and kicked her out and sent her back to her mother's house now they are two peas in a pod so much a like it is scary

I know - it's terrible. I had two sons, and I raised them to know how to cook, clean, wash clothes - generally help with chores around the house. Now my oldest son is married to a girl who doesn't know how to do any of those things - so he has had to do them.
I work outside the home, and I still cook, clean, wash - and managed to raise my children and teach them how to help keep a clean home. So - I don't buy the line that the reason they don't know how to do those basic things in a home is because THEIR mothers worked and weren't stay at home mothers. It's frustrating to me.....

I would say that it is because most women today have to work outside the home. They have busier lives than their mothers may have.

Taht's a good question. But to answer your question maybe they have no idea as to how to be a house wife.
