if so what type of paint would I need to use? A high heat paint like they use for woodstoves?

I have painted electric baseboard heaters with regular spray paint. Be sure to paint only the housing and not the heat dissapating fins.

If you can disassemble all of the electrical parts from the ugly metal parts, then use a paint that can be used on bar-b-que grills, or Rust O Leum makes a High Temp paint in about 4 colors, that is rated the same as incindiary paint, or more commonly know as header paint, as it comes from the auto industry to paint the exhaust headers on most vehicles, and it's rated for around 3000f.
