I`m not sure the right way, but I save coffee cans and pour the used oil in them, when the can is full I will put the lid on and throw it out with the garbage....( I keep the coffee can with the used oil in it, under my cabinet with the lid on until I throw it out)....It never causes any odors.

When I come to the last of the oil in the bottle...I put it back in the bottle and trash it. Unless I'm going to fry the next day...then I'll cover it and put it in the oven over night. (not turned on)...but thats just me!

I usually keep a bottle from the oil to pour the old oil into when I change it. For larger quantities if you live near farmers, check with them; many farmers will add the oil to their livestock feed.

Pour it into an empty can, put it in the freezer and toss on trash night. Because it's frozen, it won't spill causing a mess.
