Not only can it bend your rims, it can separate the steel belting in your tires causing them become dangerous. It can also throw off your alignment, bend tie-rods, ruin ball joints, bend or break control arms, break springs, blow out struts... None of which is a good thing. And going faster over the holes doesn't help. It only causes the stresses on your car's suspension to become magnified. Avoid potholes like the plague!!!

Absolutely. I hit a pothole the size of the Grand Canyon one time and not only did it bend the rim, my tire went flat within 2 minutes of hitting the pothole. I disagree that you have to be going faster than 30 mph...I was going about 10 mph in traffic and had no choice but try to negotiate the pothole or get hit on either side or rear-ended if I had stopped.
I have heard that you can file a claim with the City that did not keep the road up and that some people have been successful in doing so, but it is a very long and tedious process and also dependent upon the tax base of the city where it happens (in "well to do" area easier to get compensation than a "poor" area).
I also have to agree with the above posters that indicate your front-end will need to be re-aligned if the car now pulls to one side and if the car wobbles when you reach more than 30 mphs, it would behoove you to get the rim replaced as soon as possible as your tire will eventually go flat.

Potholes could cause a rim to get bent, but it would also often ruin your tire. It will also often cause to alignment to be off.

Y The answer is yes. Not only Might they bend at the rim, It could cause a loss in tire pressure and the wheel and tire to be out of balance. Get it checked out.

If it did no longer bend sufficient to pop the tire you're in a position to straighten it yet one ingredient you're able to comprehend until now you place warmth (torch) to the rim, make particular the tire is off first or it may blow up on your face. basically letting the air out won't paintings the two because of the fact the warmth will start to soften the rubber and the it maximum possibly won't seal and carry air back. the different ingredient you're able to comprehend until now you place warmth to the chrome is the warmth will discolor the chrome and if it gets warm sufficient it may even take the chrome off. good success
