Compared to King's other novels, I would say, no, "The Gunslinger" is not scary. It is hard book to categorize into a genre; it has some horror elements, but also many western, sci-fi, and fantasy elements. I think The Dark Tower series is King's best work, and I great read, I highly recommend it. The section with the Slow Mutants is kinda scary, as is the voice in the basement of the way station, but I guess it depends on what you find scary. I didn't find this book to be scary, but it was a great read.

The gunslinger is not scary but it's the first of the Dark Tower Series which is INCREDIBLE!!! The gunslinger is a little slow at times, but by the second book (I think it's the Drawing of the Three) you're just hooked and completely amazed.

No, I don't think it's any more scary than the others.
The story centers upon "the gunslinger", who has been chasing after his adversary, "the man in black", for many years. Chronicled is the gunslinger's quest through a large desert, and then a mountain, in search of the man.
Along the way, he encounters various people, among them a boy named Jake, who is from another world.
