I reached Level 4 tonight and I feel good about it but I have been pondering some things. I gave up TV awhile ago and I gained so much more time. Then, I became addicted to Yahoo! Answers and all of my extra time was taken away. Maybe not addiction, but a procrastination tool which kept me away from the important things. Now, I am thinking, I need to take a long break or quit entirely and experience life to the fullest instead of sitting in front of a computer screen answering questions. There is a world outside of the computer screen. People to see, work to be done, goals and dreams to be achieved, books to be written, and empires to build. So, what I am trying to say is, how does somebody get the motivation to continually answer and ask questions on a regular or daily basis and not get burnt out and/or not feel life is passing them by? How does one have the endurance to get to Levels 5,6, and the holy grail of level 7 and continue on with no prize or end in sight?

Great question! I too find myself spending all my spare time on here. I just hope tha I can help atleast a few people by sharing my experiences. I need to only allow myself to be on here so long a day. Its addicting!

I can't say that I feel Yahoo Answers has made it seem as if life is passing by, but I've noticed the tricky thing with it is this: You pop on because you're bored or television is bad or you're waiting for a phone call. You answer the first question you see that you can answer, but then..... you decide "just one more". Then, "just one more". Etc. Etc.

I have found that I almost have a "homework mentality", where I think if I just do one more I'll be that much closer to being done. One day I realized there is no end to the questions, and "just one more" doesn't get a person closer to completing something.

I've had trouble getting my brain around the idea that there is no completing anything on here; and I've realized that having the unconscious thought of aiming to complete something has in the past kept me answering "just one more" time and time again.

Once I realized that I had been thinking that way I decided to see this site in a different way and get it through my thick head that there is no completing to get done. I am now able to pop on for a question or two and pop off just as quickly. I've come around to seeing the questions as isolated, individual, things and not as part of a monster job to get completed. Now its more like reading a junk mail or two but deleting the rest of them.

If you just reached Level 4 you will see the horrifying number of points required to get to Level 5. That, alone, may be enough to make you decide to quit at Level 4.

you know what.. I have only reached Level 2 and I feel exactly the same way..i think about Yahoo Answers all the time and think i need therapy for this.. then last week my computer power burnt out and i was depressed and couldn't sleep all the time it was being repaired.. so i decided to detox and deny myself the pleasure of the pc for a few days.
This week i feel more in control. The less I log in the more power i feel I have over this!!
Good luck!!

This is truly the best and most meaningful question I have yet to answer. This is one of life's deep mysteries. I think Yahoo is tricking us with seminal messages. In ten years there will be rehabs for all of us. Yahoo answers rehab. It makes us feel useful to share our knowledge with others. What else do you do with a gift but give. People need us out there and they know we'll be there. Carry on loyal servent!

If you take the answers or questions seriously than it wont be a waist of your time. But if you have something that is more important than yahoo answers tha I dont see whats keeping you back from pursuing it.

I have a lot of living to do- I have no choice but to put everything else first. Going on Yahoo! Answers is my way of breathing a bit in between.
By the way... when I reached level 4, I made people congratulate me....lol (look at one of my questions). Congratulations to you!

i am planning retiring at level 7. i wonder if it is at all possible to do so or does the ego demand a level 8 to arrive for more quests?

do you do nothing in life but earn points on YAHOO ANSWERS? get your life back, be in control before it turns into a real addiction if it has not already.
