I had the same problem and stopped taking them when I was three months pregnant. I had no problems what so ever, and a very short labor. I was only in labor for about 2 1/2 3 hours. And it was my first child. They were very surprised in the hospital with that one. But I really see no harm in not taking them if you eat right. If they make you sick, I would suggest not taking them. I couldn't stand how they made me feel. It was icky. That is the only word to describe it. But really, if you eat right and do everything else right, there really should be no problems what so ever. Good luck.
Also, remember that way back then, they didn't have prenatal vitamins and it was OK. I really don't think that they are that necessary. I never even had my doctor recommend any. All he did was ask if I took some, I told him that they made me sick, and he said that it was fine if I didn't take any to just eat healthy.

if you are eating healthy and are sure that you are over compensating in other areas as far as getting all the nutrients you need, then I wouldnt worry too much... (back in the day there was no such thing as vitamins) BUT if you are not eating right you run the risk of becoming anemic, gestational diabetes... I didn't take my prenatal vitamins ( i wasn't consistant) for the first 5 mos and I ended up anemic and my doctor made me take double doses (which made me constipated) iron is very important in the development of the human brain. Take your vitamins after you have eaten, dont take it on an empty stomach this will eliminate that yucky feeling ( I know how you feel ) think about your baby and what you do now will mold your child

I was actually pretty much the same way with my son I just couldn't stomach them for the most part. So I only usually took them like 2 maybe 3 times per week. With this pregnancy they don't bother me. My son is a perfectly healthy 2 1/2 year old now granted though I ate a crap load of vegetables and fruits with him I also love salmon. So my point is if you can't stomach them "which like I said I don't blame you" then make sure you are eating very healthy to make up for that fact.

Prenatal vitamins provide the essential nutrients the baby needs to develop properly. Without them, there is an increased chance for birth defects. Try taking them at night before bed and/or talk to your doctor about other alternatives. Think about the well-being of your unborn child.

When I was pregnant I just couldn't take them. I tried all different kinds and I puked them all up. I spoke to the doctor about it and while he firmly suggests that all pregnant women should take them he advised me that my baby would indeed be OK. My daughter would not die from lack of nutrition but instead the baby obtains the necessary vitamins and minerals from another source, namely you! In the long run you are depleting your own body of these nutrients but I believed puking constantly couldn't be that great for me either! I finally made a decision not to take them. I, instead tried to watch my diet, included as many fresh and healthy foods as I could and I found a generic plain multi vitamin to take that agreed with me. I'm not sure where you live but if it's in the south the one I used was Publix brand multi vitimins (they come in a teal and white bottle).
P.S. I gave birth to a happy, healthy baby girl.

Well, pre-natal vitamins are for you to make sure that your baby has enough for the vitamins that he/she needs.
For me, I took some natural health foods that I have been taking before i was pregnant and since they already contained all the vitamins that the human body needed.. i merely took more of them and did away with the pre- natal vitamins..
My son is fine and healthy... You can see his pics here at: http://verityy.blogspot.com

You must take them on a full stomach with milk--I had the same thing...I 'd burp them up and it was acidic-leaving an awful taste in my mouth for hours...milk is really the key--but you need to take them cuz at this point all your nutrients are going to the baby, leaving not much for you-this makes you weak and you need to be STRONG for childbirth!

You got to talk to your doctor about this problem. He/she can give you an alternative prenatal pills. Your baby may not develop properly without these pills. You may get tired more easily. Good luck:) PS: try taking women day1 vitamins. It has enough folic acid in them to keep you and the baby happy:)

I think getting enough folic acid would be the main concern for your baby, if you don't get enough the baby might end up with birth defects. Alot of it is for your sake though, because the baby will take what it needs from you and if you're not eating healthy enough it could leave you malnourished, tired, and feeling like crap.

neither you nor your baby will be getting all the nutrients you need to have during your pregnancy. You may also develop anemia.
My question to you...are you taking your vitamins on an empty stomach? That' when they will usually make you sick. If you are, try eating something first and see if that helps.
