there is no way to get rid of a cold unfortunately-they are viral and take about 10-14 days to run their course. viruses mutate (change) as they pass from person to person-therefore making it impossible to come up with a cure to fix everyone.

to treat the symptoms:

-drink hot tea with honey to help soothe a sore throat and help with sinus congestion ( i like peppermint best)
-take non-drowsy cold medicine like dayquil if you are going to be doing things during the day. it will not make you drowsy, helps dry of your sinuses, and quiets any cough you may have.
-at night, use a warm mist humidifier in your room-this will help keep the air moist and prevent your nose and throat from drying out and getting sore
-you can also take a night time cold formula to help you sleep.
-suck on ice or hard candies if you have a sore throat-this will help with the pain. you can also gargle salt water (2 tsp of salt to 8oz of water)

get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids to help flush the cold out and to also prevent dehydration.

feel better soon

My doctor suggested to me that I take Echinacea. But I was told to take 1 an hour for the first 5 hours and then back it off to 3 times a day. It doesn't make it go away magically but it cuts the healing time in half and it helped me get well faster. I've been doing that every since. I also find Airborne to be very helpful. I think it's all the herbs and vitamins. Vitamin C is a good thing to take daily to help build your immune system. I wish there were a magic cure. Good luck to you.

Zinc & vitamin C...or buy the more expensive Zicam (same stuff in that as the vitamins themselves) My mother in law swears by squirting hot water up the nose and letting it drip out. Sounds nasty, but it ALWAYS works for her.

dope up on the vitamin C and potassium like in orange juice and bannans. also a multivitamin wouldn't hurt (consult your doctor first) and most importantly get plenty of sleep
