Your tank is overloaded and the fish are being poisoned by the water. Change 25% of the water every four or five days and reduce what you are feeding. That is a huge bio-load for a tank that is that small. Consider adding a bio-wheel to your tank http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=12320&inm=1&N=2004+22768+2032 they can really improve the water quality, but it taks a couple of weeks for them to grow the necessary bacteria.

The goldfish are deffinetly in need of a bigger tank. The filtration needs to be 10 x's the tank size in gph also. Do test the water for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates, Ph also. Goldies need a PH value higher then tropicals do also, 7.5 or better.

Dechlor/ammonia binder such as prime, Goldies are *very* messy fish and we call them poo factory's, but 70% of all ammonia from them are released from the gills, the rest is all the waste.

If they are acting like they are gasping for air or having problems, then you need to seek help, it can be a water quality issue and this should alway's be checked first thing. Or, it can be something else such as gill fluke.

The chances are though you may have a WQ issue and/or parasites, fancy goldies need 10 gls each minimum and the larger single tailed variety's such as commons and Shebunkins need more, 15-20 gls each.

Get with some of the experts, they can help you determine what needs to be done and/or corrected! :)

Do you have a air pump and stone going? If not, add one. You can get 02 test kits online and I recomend adding KH, GH, Salt level kits, drop kits, not strips. Strips are too unreliable and iffy.

It's most likely water quality. You have way too many goldies in way too little water. and if you are running a totally new filter ammonia and/or nitrIte are probably getting to toxic levels because it takes around a month for a new filter to get up to speed at being able to convert ammoina which is toxic into less toxic nitrAte.

If you have it, put the old filter and filter pad back on the tank along with the new filter.

Do a 50% partial water change and dose with amquel or prime to detox ammonia.

add 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon to protect against nitrIte poisoning. predissolve in tank water and add to a high water flow area.

Feed very sparingly.

You really need to get them into a larger tank with filters that move 10 times the gallons in the tank per hour. A large rubbermaid tub would work for a temporary solution to get them into more water cheaply.

Buy a new tank. That is WAY over crowded. I have one gold fish, about 5in in one ten gallon tank. You need probably a 40-50 gallon tank at least. Goldfish produce a lot of ammonia, and right now, your fish are probably stressed. You need to get that larger tank or divide them into two tanks. They will die if you dont. Believe me, I know from losing my goldfish the first day I had him

you may desire to enable them to settle into their new homestead, they're going to in all probability be somewhat scared. additionally you may no longer probable keep goldfish in bowls as they do no longer enable sufficient air into the water. you want a very cycled tank with a filter out and ideally an air pump, she is probable to be beginning and shutting her mouth a lot because of the fact their isn't sufficient oxygen interior the water. It sounds like they want a greater tank and a few form of filtration.
