Tropical island--a long, flowing silk caftan. It'd protect against the sun and sand, and would still allow air to circulate.

An island where it was cold--like the Thousand Islands in the St. Lawrence River, or even worse, somewhere where the penguins and polar bears reside--a full-length cashmere robel.

i would have to say my hat. there is nothing worse than having a bad sunburn on your face. first it gets all dry and starts to itch very badly. not to mention a hat is useful for a multitude of things like holding objects or covering up other parts of your body, or maybe even catching food. who knows. the possibilties are practically endless

i would want a heavy coat... islands can get pretty cold at night... just wear nothing on the morning, provided there are no houses you could stay in at night.
