How about our geniuses... don't they appear even more unnatural than the rest...

I think of us as amphibians. We begin as almost completely natural beings. We recognize infants as helpless, but any parent also knows that infants are totally selfish. A major part of the parenting process is to bring the child to be a socially and morally responsible person.

So we begin with our heads under the water, so to speak, and we gradually come up out of it. We are now in the stage of our lives where we are able to take little steps onto the shore. When we reach our full maturity-- not as a race, but as individuals, upon our deaths-- then we will permanently move up on to the land.

This analogy is not original to me, but if it helps you, then you are welcome to it.

Hadn't thopught about it that way... but good question!
! agree that we are "natural" because we are a product of nature.
But the large increase in our cognitive abilities has probably put us into a category of being somewhat supernatural as well, since 'super' indicates being somehow above or beyond the norm. Language is probably the most prominent evidence of our supernaturality, since it has added a new dimension to our ability to think and especially to communicate with each other. It allows us to transfer our thoughts fairly accurately and directly into another mind, and if that aint supernatural what the heck is?

I view human beings as part of nature. We are organic and exist in nature and are therefore natural. If we were cyborg then I would think otherwise.

There is nothing unnatural about geniuses. Freaks of nature are still part of nature. If they start teleporting objects with the power of their minds then I would strongly reconsider.

Great question. I think some scientists would say we're unnatural because the odds of everything that came together to create us were astronomical.

I think we're supernatural though. We may be dreaming all this. Sometimes I ask a friend if I'm really here. They'll say, "yeah, I see you." But then that could be my imagination. As is your question. But excellent food for thought.

Human is a natural being. What is "super" is the self-awareness that does not come naturally to all other beings ? This SUPERiority is what gives us the potential to perform things that are not natural. Just the question of reaching a level of perception beyond the Natural Sense organs !

Natural, by creation,
Supernatural by agent and purpsoe of Creation,
and unnatural by virtue of the stain of sin which often makes even our best efforts seem to turn out with bad results.

Anti-natural - the only living thing not willing to exist in nature as it is.
