I think the Democrats will bring a measure of decency back to the government (notice I said a measure) because they will be in the driver's seat for awhile and won't want to become corrupted right away. It would be too hypocriticaMF Also, if the Democrats gain control of either or both houses, there will be calls for investigations on Iraq and the handling of Katrina hurrican and its aftermath. The Bush Administration would also not be able to roll over the House, as it has for the past 6 years, mostly because House Republicans have been a rubber stamp for the White House.

But actually both parties are corrupt because special interest money protects politicians from constituency demands and wrath. They can pretty much do whatever they want, within certain bounds (Mark Foley just found out what those bounds are, and I think Dennis Hasert is about to, as well, which is not a bad thing.) I don't believe that politicians of themselves are corrupt when they join the House of Representatives or U.S. Senate. But the system of fawning congressional aides, federal bureaucracy and government officials, and special interest money from lobbyists of all types makes them corrupt and not accountable to the people who elect them.

In case you think they are accountable, ponder the following: If you were an average person and you had a problem with a federal bureaucracy, if you contacted your representative or senator, would they help you or dismiss your concern? But if you were a member of a group (business, labor, single issue), and you had a similar problem, do you think they would be more likely to help? Of course, because you're a member of a group. Numbers carry clout, votes and grass roots organization. Now if that group had lots of campaign money, you would find out how helpful that politician can be. In our system, money talks and talks big.

Oh, yes, the party that wants to count votes of people that didn't make a choice for President but not absentees will ensure greater democracy, and decency....why with the party of Gerry Studds, Bill Clinton, Barney Frank, and Ted Kennedy in power, it'll be just obscene how decent things are again.

not really. The US is not really a democracy. You have only TWO real choices, and both sides are funded by the same money and corporations. The actual difference in philosophy between the Democrats and Republicans is so minor, it makes no real difference!

I think once you start showing the world that your a part of the community and not a rogue, me my self and I country, that it will come back . However just look at the imbecile answers on Yahoo answers.. There are SO many people in the US that think that the US is the only country that exists That has ever prospered or done the right thing, it freaks me out , Why is it that the rest of the world is wrong and the US is always right. Just because you have military power doesn't make you the high moral ground of truth and righteousness

Actually IF Republicans are swept from office I see the emergence of a socialist/communist state. High taxes will rob wage earners of their pay checks. Socialized healthcare will allow beaucrats to determine, who gets rationed healthcare as opposed to the market place. Speech will be prohibited by laws like "hate speech laws" etc. The middle-class, investor class, and the rich will be punished for taking risks and for their economic success through a graduated tax success. The economy will become more communist through state control such as subsidies for failing companies or the outright ownership of companies by the government (like alchohol in New Hampshire). Conservative students will once again have to hide in shame for fear of being ridiculed by their peers without any economic protection. China, Al-queda, and other world bullies will be emboldened by our inability to use violence and will terrorize the world's innocence (can we say the conquest of Taiwan?). American's will lose their work ethic and civic virtue, because their attitude will become one of entitlement, that is...give me bread and circus for it is owed to me! So will decency be "restored" to the United States if they win? No, actually it will result in a gradual decline of Pax American just as Rome fell. Democrats controlling offic will lead to looser fiscal control, economic recession, societal breakdown, and eventual civic chaos that will result in a country like France and an eventual Soviet Union.

You think the Dems are any better? The government is screwed up regardless of who is in charge. However, world might be a brighter place when Bush leaves office.
