as the pharmacy employee stated-there is no one best antibiotic out there.
different antibiotics treat different strain of bacteria and infection, so what might work for your ear infection might not work for a bladder infection. it also depends on how bad the infection is-in a hospital setting-the most commonly used antibiotics are vancomycin and flagyl.
also-alot of people are severely allergic to certain lines of antibioitcs-so they have to be given a different one to treat their illnesses.
doctors will usually run blood tests or in the event a bladder infection or urinary tract infection is present-he will culture the urine-which means mixing a small sample of the urine with a small sample of the medication to make sure it is going to kill the infection...

To my knowledge, and I am not a physician, Tetracycline, is the antibiotic that is most effective on a myriad of medical maladies. This antibiotic is prescribed for many infections, including streptococcus, pneumonia, and even acne. Like other prescriptions, there are side effects: that is the why everyone needs to consult a licensed physician before taking any antibiotic. Don't take another person's medication based on that person's results.
My daughter was prescribed Tetracycline for acne, but was apprised of the danger of discoloration of her teeth by using this antibiotic. My daughter's acne did abate, but her teeth did develop some discoloration.
There are consequences to using any medication. That's why the medical community and pharmaceutical companies inform the public of adverse consequences to any medication. There is no medication that is "fail safe".

Different antibiotics work for different infections. Some antibiotics aren't useful in some infections that have become immune to the antibiotics. There is no one great antibiotic on the market, it all depends on what its being used for and the person, as everyone responds differently to medications.
