Our newspaper had an op-ed piece a week or so ago that was about how society has become less morally concious than in the past. The reporter was saying that there is more crime, teenage pregnancy, etc. Is this true or did the same things happen way back when and nobody ever heard about it? Are we just more aware now that we have more technology and find out things that happen all over the world?

Probably a bit of both. There's no doubt that there were problems back in the day.

We definitely live in an age of professional victimization. Every killer nut or pervert had to have not gotten enough cookies as a child or they have a chemical imbalance. Back in the day if people wouldn't buy the excuses.

There's little doubt that some of these recent killings are copycats. So the media contributes to the awareness of incidents and other incidents.

Crime has come down actually since the 70s. So we got that going for us, which is nice.

This is an age old question. does the technology and information cause the crime or did the crime cause the need for the technology?

One thing you can say is that times were simpler, or were they? Let's not let images of show like Leave it to Beaver and Donna Reed taint our view. Some of the problems we face today were there back then. People just did not air the dirty laundry the way we do today.

We have become desensitized to the images. I think that is why the Amish killings have hurt so much those people were not unsensitive. They do not get bombarded with images of deatha dn bad guys. A truly innocent community was shaked yseterday and it hurts. I have cried all day thinking about it. I have cried harder for this than I did for 9-11 and I cried pretty hard for that too.

I have rambled and I am sorry I hope I touched the point of your question

Absolutely No,I believe the opposite is true.Yes,with more population you will have more crime but Morals and family values are now up for debate in presidential elections. This is a big mistake people make(looking for politicians to be moral leaders).
