I know that my pond liner has a hole in it; the pond is about 4 feet deep when full, the leak is at about the 2 foot level where I have big rocks on top of the liner (I don't think the rocks punctured the liner, I've had the pond 5 years & have not had any problems up until now) & don't want to move them all to find the leak! Its a slow leak! With winter coming on shortly in MN. I don't want to bring all my koi inside & wait till the spring to fix the leak What can I do to find out precisely where it is? Someone suggested spraying milk around the edges to see where the leak is; not sure if this works for slow leaks! Any ideas would greatly be appreciated!

Thxs,

Without moving the rocks it's going to be hard to find the hole but if you can find a dye that is not harmful to fish and put it in the water maybe you can see where the water is leaking out or get a good idea in what area. Good Luck

There is no easy way but hey! 5 years is not a bad run for your liner.
2 feet is not deep enouigh for your Koi unless you install a pond heater and that might be pushing it too - in only 2 feet of water. Perhaps build a shelter over the pond, as well as the pond heater and hope the water does not go below the 2 foot mark.

It must be a flexible rubber liner, as opposed to a solid one piece plastic formed liner? Really no way to tell exactly where it is without draining it and moving the rocks. Especially if it is a flexible rubber liner. Sorry to break it to you. I just had to do the same for a client whose pond was leaking about 100 gallons a day. I had to pull up all the rocks, pull the liner, supsend it on two sawhorses, and go over it foot by foot. I ended up just buying a new liner.

there is not any elementary way yet hey! 5 years isn't a foul run on your liner. 2 feet isn't deep enouigh on your Koi except you install a pond heater and which would be pushing it too - in basically 2 feet of water. maybe build a shield over the pond, as properly through fact the pond heater and want the water does not bypass under the two foot mark.

Sorry, the rocks have to come out. It is not possible to find a leak like that any other way. The only thing I would suggest is to look for a wet spot on the outside of the pond, by probing with a sharp , pointy object, looking for a soft spot.....KECK

You could have subterranian termites. They will eat thru pool and pond liners toget to water, rather than going up and over. If you can't ever find the leak, get the area treated for termites.
