Models in Madrid have been banned from the catwalk for having a BMI of less than 18.

Personally I think 18 is too high, it is just barely even "underweight". It should 16 or 17 if anything.

No they should not! models are supposed to be skinny.
so all these overweight girls need to stop trying to take over the modeling buisness. no one wants to look at them.

in my honest opinion, i have very mixed feelings about this issue/debate because i do understand that some young girls look up to supermodels as role models but in all honesty, there are plenty of other celebrities and girls out there that make good role models that are not super skinny. i think that if a young girl is inclined towards having a supermodel as her role model then that shows something about her and thats her decision. if she develops an eating disorder or what-have-you, i think that that is solely the decision of the young girl to take that initiative, why point fingers at the models? Supermodels should not be banned from the catwalk because even though they are thinner than average young girls, clothes worn on the runway are worn moreso for the sake of art and expressing a certain aura, feeling, mood, etc. i think that people are pointing fingers at models because they feel that models are above all others but that really isnt the case. Models are being used as scapegoats and i really dont think that's fair to them because everyone makes their own decisions based on what they believe is correct and everyone is responsible for their own actions...

I don't think they should even use BMI to decide this. The models need to have their body fat percentage checked and if it is less than around 12%, then they should be banned. Two models with a BMI of 18 may have totally different body fat percentages, one may have 18% body fat and be perfectly fine and the other may have 10% and be dangerously unhealthy. So I think BMI should be totally scrapped and body fat percentage be tested instead. HTH : )

I think they should be banned. Many girls, whether younger or older, want to look like people do in the media. And since so many models and actresses look like a stick, they are not going to have any self-confidence in their own body. I personally think that they need models with a little more meat on them. Women are supposed to be curvy!

Honestly I think models are too skinny and they need to eat more for their own good but to go as far as banning them for being too skinny is stupid because those poor girls are that thin because they are probably told that if they gain 3 pounds they'll be fired.

i think they should be banned because there r girlss websites that i have seen having pics of models and sayin they r perfect and they r nowhere near lookin like them when they look the same. noone even likes skinny anymore. they like legs that fit into jeans that arent skinny jeans. and their boobs r like pimples. can we atleast get a b cup. they wouldnt be so small if they werent so skinny. alot of women are atleast a b cup. and isnt model supposed to mean like a live example of how things would look for u as if it was on you. well to get the example right they would have to shrink to their size. and plus alot of people think that models bodies just look scary, like guys too

The average woman is a size 12. I think there should be more models with some fat or shape.

something drastic has to be done to safeguard the well being of young girls who will emulate these stick figures (as well as Lohan, Hilton, Richie) Besides, these stick models in no way reflect the body type of the women who will end up buying the clothes, so lets get real out there.

the final individual is in simple terms too fat. the fact regrettably is that outfits do seem lots extra valuable putting from a skeleton. the form industry is interior the enterprise of advertising clothing and could not do comfortable with its designs stretched over a barrel of lard bowling down the catwalk. those fashions surely inspire fat-assed women to consume much less.

I think it is a great idea. teenagers look up to these models and want to be like them. Some girls are so worried about it they become anorexic or bulemic. It would be a more positve influence if these girls looked healthy, not malnourished.
