Im working on a school paper and the question is "The author wrote this story for a specific reason. What do you think his/her purpose was for writing it?". I read The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway.

These people (the other answerers) are idiots.

He wrote it as a reaction to the critics. The sharks in the novel symbolize the critical attacks on his hard work (symbolized by the marlin).

He had just come out of a long dry spell creatively, and the story exemplifies his perseverance.

"The previous guy and the sea" by potential of Ernest Hemmingway is a e book. As I bear in mind the previous guy and a youthful boy are lost at sea without gas. earlier they are rescued, the previous guy dies.

Some times a writer will write just to make some money. You don't have to be compelled by some reason to write a good book.
