I think you are on the right track. Here is my checklist for all students (especially Senior Students)
1. Maintain the highest GPA possible
2. Seek out Colleges that have the programs that you are looking for
3. Do the SAT/ACT early (late junior year) and do well
4. Find an extracurricular activity you enjoy and do it well
5. Get Letters of Recommendation from a diverse group of individuals and before they write them, discuss it with them, find out your strengths and weaknesses from people who evaluate you. Certain schools require interviews, or essays or both as part of the admissions process. This little exercise with your letter writers provides you with answers to some of the questions that you may be asked.

You have three years to prepare for this.

Best wishes to a successful high school career

I loved my Freshman 12 months at the same time as i became in extreme college, new acquaintances, exciting life, minimum homework, the only component that sucked became I were given rejected by skill of my extreme college weigh down isn't it ironic that he's now my fiance'? The rumors about getting thrown contained in the garbage can and getting beat up are pretend i became in extreme college for 4 years and not in any respect some thing got here about to me.

Try to figue out what makes you different and focus on that. Top schools are not just looking for good grades and activities, they like a hook. Start your own small business or run a marathon. Really think about what you want to study and get experience now outside of your typical school activities.

And don't get set on one specific school bc you know they turn down people for no reason other than space and luck.

Just focus on your studies and extracurricular activites such as sports would be a definite plus.
