This was a quote from William Philip Gramm, but I can't help but think how true it is. For the most part.

This is primarily because even though people are poor, we are not so poor in America that we can't afford food at all. However, affordable food tends to be things like:

High fat beef/pork
Rice, potatoes, pasta, white bread
Sugar
Processed foods in general which have lower nutrition and higher calories.

I have to feed a family of five on $400 a month, and believe me, trying to put fresh vegetables and low fat meats on the table every day of the month at that budget is next to impossible. We have to eat pasta or rice based meals 5 days out of seven. Unfortunately that is just the way it is when you're poor in America, but I'd rather be poor here, where I can at least feed my kids, than poor in Tibet or some other third world nation, where my kids would starve to death.

For the record, the only fat one in the family is me, and I'm wheelchair bound and can't exercise.

That's because all the poor people can afford is the high-calorie, fattening cheap burgers and friends from McDonald's and the other fast-food chains, which force-feed their junk food to low-incomed people.
But, wait a minute! Look around you, and you'll also notice that a preponderance of middle-incomed people - and even RICH people - are also fat!
Why? Because America is a gluttonous society. We have too much to eat, and don't know what it's like to go to bed hungry (for the most part; there are several million kids living in abject poverty that do go to bed hungry in America almost every day).
Remember the Beatles song: "Little Piggies". It accurately describes our American society of gluttony, arrogance and sloth. America represents 5% of the global population, yet squanders 55% of all the Earth's resources! It's no wonder other nations despise us so! -RKO-

Poor People are fat everywhere, not just here. It's due to malnutrition. The cheapest food in this country is the worst kind of food you can eat. Yet items like Lettuce, and fresh veggies are expensive as hell.

When you get out into the real world you'll understand that as well.

Until then you're just a pip who keeps squeaking.

It is expensive to eat healthy. Fresh fruit and veggies cost so much these days. Plus, the wealthy can afford to join a gym and work out while the rest of us are working two or more jobs just to get by and have no time to exercise.

I too were to Mexico many cases, and may want to allow you to understand for a actuality they have extra undesirable human beings than everywhere i have ever considered except Asia. Does this recommend they're the poorest united states; for sure no longer! even with the indisputable fact that being truly undesirable in Mexico (any section) is intense to existence.

It is because they have to eat processed food. The preservatives in the food actually slow down your metabolism. When you go to those programs that give you free food, you have to eat what they can afford to give away.
Food that is natural and good for you costs more, and poor people can't afford it, so they are forced to eat garbage.
The government does not want you to know this.
