I washed some laundry. Most was dry and smelled fine, but the load included a couple of old, mildewed towels. Now EVERYTHING smells bad.

I'm up for trying anything as long as it won't ruin the clothes. Thanks.

Oh no - I hate mildewy stuff. Try washing with a little bit of bleach (as suggested above) on the hottest setting that is appropriate for the clothes. You can even wash twice if you like. Then transfer to the dryer soon after the washer is done so you don't make more mildew!

Use hot water, add Oxiclean (several scoops - go big) and your regular detergent. Put the items that smell in and turn your washer on ONLY for like two minutes. Just enough to let it "swish" around until the oxiclean has a chance to be disbursed. Let it soak for 15 min. Then REPEAT - turn washer on for a minute, stop it and let them soak for at least 15 min. After that, just turn the washer on and let it run it's cycle. Smell the items before drying - if they are still bad, you can either try the process again, or toss the items. Good luck

Try vinegar in the water & it won't bleach the clothes. Use about 1 cup of white vinegar & rewash the same as usual. sunshine is good - hang them out if you can, but they should also do just fine in the dryer.

Try running the load with vinegar or baking soda. Both are good for dealing with a lot of odors.

Wash the laundry again, or just rinse them....Then hang them in the SUN all day...(The sun will kill the bacteria in them) bring them in and wash and dry them again....All the smell will be gone....Works for me......Good Luck

The tiniest bit of bleach in warm wash should do the trick. (~1/4 cup to xlarge load) LET THE WASHER FILL UP TO DILUTE THE BLEACH BEFORE ADDING THE CLOTHES

Well, the clothes are pretty much unwearable now, aren't they?

Clorox to the rescue! Just dont' sue it on cotton, colored clothes.

And use the hottest water you can.
